In the world of preppy, nautical-inspired fashion, few brands have made as big of a splash as Vineyard Vines. Established in 1998 by brothers Shep and Ian Murray, the brand was born out of their shared love for the Martha's Vineyard lifestyle. From its humble beginnings selling vibrant, hand-sewn ties, Vineyard Vines has blossomed into a global brand synonymous with laid-back luxury with an East Coast vibe. Easily identified by the signature pink whale logo, Vineyard Vines is known for its embroidered polo shirts, whimsical prints, quarter-zip pullover sweaters, and impeccably crafted accessories.
The casual elegance of the Vineyard Vines Cashmere Shop collection perfectly embodies that sophisticated aesthetic with a relaxed twist. While the collection includes classic pieces like a classic v-neck cashmere sweater, it also features less structured offerings like men’s cashmere waffle hoodies and joggers. On the women’s side, the cashmere collection includes stunning pieces like the lofty Diamond Pointelle Seaspun Cashmere Sweater and the Tissue Cashmere Turtleneck Sweater .
In keeping with Vineyard Vines’ commitment to quality, these Cashmere Shop items are investment pieces with retail prices between 200 and $300. With proper care–and careful washing by hand–these cashmere garments will look and feel beautiful for seasons on end. Heritage Park Home Essentials is here with the step-by-step guidance you need to wash and care for your Vineyard Vines cashmere right at home.
Choose the Right Detergent for Washing Vineyard Vines Cashmere
Whether you’re washing cashmere joggers or a delicate cashmere sweater, you should use a detergent that is gentle while cleaning thoroughly. And when it comes to Vineyard Vines delicate cashmere yarns, a grocery-store detergent just won’t do. Indeed, most “commercial” detergents are too abrasive for the protein structure of natural fibers like cashmere. Additionally, Even gentle biological detergents that use enzymes to break down stains should be avoided because over time they will degrade protein-based fabrics like cashmere, wool, and silk (learn more about biological detergents here ).
Heritage Park Silk and Wool Detergent is your best choice. Our plant-based formula contains gentle ingredients that preserve the softness and prevent damage to cashmere while still effectively removing dirt, stains, and odor. It is pH-neutral to protect fibers and skin. Our fragrance-free variety is also lab-certified hypoallergenic , which is ideal for sensitive skin (we also offer lightly fragranced Spring Magnolia and Lavender Mist varieties).
How Frequently Do You Need to Wash Vineyard Vines Cashmere?
The answer to this depends on how (and where) you wear your cashmere. Items like joggers are likely to need more frequent washing than a sweater layered over a shirt. With that said, Vineyard Vines recommends airing out your cashmere sweaters and other garments to extend time between cleanings and only handwashing (or dropping at your cleaners for dry cleaning). Always be sure to follow the care instructions on the label.
Supplies You’ll Need to Hand Wash Your Vineyard Vines Cashmere Clothing
Get ready to wash your cashmere clothing with the following supplies:
- Heritage Park Silk and Wool Detergent Fragrance-Free/Hypoallergenic (or one of our lightly scented formulas).
- A clean basin or laundry tub.
- A clean towel for pressing out excess water.
- A drying rack.
Simple Steps for Hand Washing Vineyard Vines Cashmere
Note: Be sure to pre-treat any stains on your cashmere as soon as possible. While we don’t recommend using enzyme detergent for regular washing of cashmere, you may be able to use an enzyme-based stain remover or detergent to pre-treat or pre-soak stains on an occasional basis. Test on an inconspicuous area; for stubborn stains, bring to a professional cleaning expert.
Follow these steps for regular washing of your cashmere clothing.
Step 1: Fill the Basin
Fill a basin or sink with cool water. Never use hot water, as it can cause cashmere fibers to shrink.
Step 2: Add Detergent
Pour a small amount of our enzyme-free Silk and Wool detergent into the water. Never use bleach or fabric softener.
Step 3: Submerge the Garment
Submerge the cashmere piece in the soapy water, making sure it is fully immersed. Gently agitate the water to allow the detergent to penetrate the fibers.
Step 4: Hand Wash
Swish the fabric with your hands, and gently rub any soiled areas. Avoid excessive wringing or twisting, as this can distort the shape of your cashmere.
Step 5: Rinse Thoroughly:
Drain the soapy water and refill the basin with clean, cold water. Rinse until all detergent is washed out.
Step 6: Remove Excess Water
Press the water out of the clothing without wringing. You can also place the garment on a clean towel and roll it up to absorb excess water.
Step 7: Dry Flat
Lay the garment flat on a clean, dry towel to air dry or across a drying rack away from direct sunlight, which can fade color. Reshape it to its original silhouette and allow it to dry completely.
Should You Ever Machine Wash Your Vineyard Vines Cashmere?
We cannot recommend putting your Vineyard Vines cashmere in the washing machine because it is contrary to the care guidelines. With that said, some washing machines have a “hand wash” setting that does a very good job of gentle cleaning. You can read about our experiment in washing a dry-clean only sweater here .
