A great workout means getting sweaty. And when you’re outfitted in Under Armour apparel, you know your gear is up to the task. But what’s not so great? Worrying about how best to wash your UA tees, tanks, shorts, and leggings to rid them of the post-workout sweat, dirt and odors. Read to learn how best to wash your Under Armour clothing and why Heritage Park Activewear Detergent should be your top choice for laundering this performance gear.

Under Armour: Made For Athletes, By Athletes

Under Armour, a leading brand in the world of athletic performance apparel, has been revolutionizing the way athletes dress since its inception in 1996. Founded by Kevin Plank, a former University of Maryland football player, Under Armour started by producing moisture-wicking compression shirts to keep athletes cool, dry, and comfortable during intense physical activity. The brand quickly gained popularity among professional and amateur athletes alike. Today, the Under Armour product lines include a wide range of athletic clothing and accessories for men, women, and youth.

UA's innovative workout and performance gear is designed to enhance performance and help athletes to push their limits and achieve their goals. From their signature HeatGear and ColdGear fabrics, which help regulate body temperature in various conditions, to their latest UA Rush fabric, a technology that mimics an infrared sauna to promote energy return to the body during workouts, Under Armour consistently delivers cutting-edge solutions for athletes of all levels. To ensure that your UA workout and performance apparel maintains its quality, functionality, and appearance, it's crucial to understand how to properly wash and care for these items. In this blog post, we'll provide step-by-step instructions on washing Under Armour gear and introduce you to a specially formulated detergent designed for activewear: Heritage Park Activewear Laundry Detergent.

Heritage Park Activewear Detergent: The Best Detergent for Cleaning Under Armour Apparel

High-tech Under Armour fabrics are made to wick, stretch, and support you through every aspect of your training and workout regimen. With that in mind, you need to choose the best detergent to clean this performance gear, which is made from synthetic fiber. You want a formula that’s powerful enough to obliterate the sweat, stains, and odors, not just cover them up with fragrance. At the same time, it should be gentle enough for daily washing and non-irritating to your skin, especially in delicate areas. Regular detergent (like most grocery store brands) can be harsh on performance fabrics, while so-called “gentle formulas” leave stains and odors behind.

That’s why we’re pleased to introduce Heritage Park Activewear Laundry Detergent, made specifically for washing sports and workout gear. This concentrated, pH-neutral formula is perfect for laundering your Under Armour clothing and all your performance and workout gear:

  • Effective: A double dose of laundry enzymes to break down and remove sweat, stains and sports odors from workout gear and gym clothing.
  • Protective: cleans and protects the integrity and breathability of wicking and performance Under Armour fabric.
  • Safe: plant-based formula is made without dyes, phosphates, sulfates, chlorine, bleach, or brighteners.
  • Fragrance free: No masking unpleasant odors with perfume. The powerful enzyme blend breaks down and removes stains and odors from fabric.
  • Versatile: Can be used in regular or HE machines at any temperature and for handwashing.

“The Heritage Park team includes athletes of all ability levels, ” said Taylor Robertson, Heritage Park Brand Manager. “The common denominator is they all work hard at fitness. We made our Activewear detergent for them – and with them – by rigorously testing different formulas until we were entirely satisfied. Our final product is a safe, plant-based, mild detergent that can stand up to the toughest sweat, dirt, and odors.”

Supplies You’ll Need to Wash Your Under Armour Clothes

You will need the following supplies to wash your Under Armour clothing.

  • Heritage Park Activewear Laundry Detergent.
  • A washing machine with a gentle cycle.
  • Mesh laundry bags for small items.
  • A spray bottle for making your own enzyme solution.
  • A tub or bucket for pre-soaking.
  • A drying rack or lint-free towel.

Simple Steps for Washing Your Under Armour Clothing

Follow these instructions to learn how to wash your Under Armour clothing. You can use these directions for washing Under Armour items made from cotton, nylon, polyester, elastane, and other materials. When washing bras, we recommend removing any pads that are not attached and placing them in a mesh laundry bag.

Step 1: Read the Care Label

Follow the care instructions on the garment label (this is good advice no matter what you’re laundering).

Step 2: Get Out of Your Sweaty Clothing ASAP

Change out of your sweaty clothing as soon as possible after a workout to prevent sweat, odor, and stains from soaking into the fabric. Don’t ball up your sweaty clothes or toss them into a gym bag, which is the perfect breeding ground for bacteria. It’s not always practical or possible, but our best advice is to air out your workout gear until it can be washed.

Step 3: Pretreat and Presoak Stains

Pre-treat or pre-soak any sweat stains or other dirt as soon as possible. We recommend using an enzyme stain remover or make a solution of a 1:1 ratio of Heritage Park Activewear Laundry Detergent and water in a spray bottle. You can also pre-soak a particularly sweaty item or one with stubborn stains in warm water and a concentrated solution of Activewear Detergent.

Step 4: Wash Under Armour Clothes with Like Fabrics

Trust us on this one. We always recommend washing darks and colors separately, but premium workout clothing like Under Armour should be washed in its own load or with other similar fabrics, sorted by color. NEVER wash your bra or exercise clothing with towels or socks; you will wind up with a lot of unwanted lint.

Step 5: Put Smaller Items in a Mesh Laundry Bag

Don’t skip this step! Putting smaller and delicate items in a mesh laundry bag will protect them from snagging on tiny burrs of metal inside the machine tub or twisting around the agitator mechanism. Fasten any hooks on bras before placing them in a bag.

Step 6: Use A Gentle Cycle and Cold or Warm Water

Even if your clothing is sweaty, resist the temptation to use a powerful cycle and hot water. These are not recommended for performance synthetic fabric. Choose a delicate or hand washing cycle for your machine.

Step 7: Never Use Bleach, Fabric Softener, or Dryer Sheets

These products are ruinous to performance and moisture wicking fabric. Bleach will cause discoloration and yellowing, and fabric softeners and dryer sheets will leave a waxy build-up both on fabric and on the inside of your machine. Even worse: that build-up degrades the ability of your Under Armour clothing to wick away sweat.

Step 8: Air Dry or Tumble Dry on Low

The care guidelines for most Under Armour items say that they can be tumbled dry on low heat. This is fine, but our best advice is to lay these items flat on a lint-free towel or a drying rack to dry. This will prevent any damage from heat and allow them to regain their shape and compression.

Should You Hand Wash Under Armour Clothing?

You can absolutely hand wash your Under Armour clothing. Just fill a clean sink or utility tub with warm water and a capful of Activewear Laundry Detergent. Swish with your hand to mix. Submerge the item and let it sit for a half-hour. Gently scrub the fabric with your hands, and rinse thoroughly with cold water, making sure all the detergent is gone. Don’t wring out excess water. Instead, press or roll your clothing in a lint-free towel. Dry flat or on a drying rack.

By following these recommendations, you’ll enjoy peak performance and cleanliness from your Under Armour clothes You can also use Heritage Park Activewear Laundry Detergent to clean and deodorize any type of workout apparel and undergarments; sports uniforms; washable knee and elbow pads; and even smelly socks!
