  • Safely Cleans Silk and Wool, the Only Detergent that is EWG Verified and EPA Safer Choice Certified

Let’s put this simply: A great silk and wool detergent is the ultimate multitasker. It lifts dirt and odor. Protects delicate protein fibers. And takes gentle care of sensitive skin.

That’s three essential jobs in a single bottle of detergent. Most brands manage one or two (at best). Heritage Park excels at all three.

    • A pH-neutral, plant-based, enzyme-free formula that protects fibers. Your silk, wool, and cashmere are big investments. Heritage Park keeps these delicates soft, stylish and beautiful.
    • A gentle detergent that gets the job done. It removes dirt, stains, and odors to leave your silk and wool garments clean and fresh. All without the use of harsh chemicals or heavy additives.
    • Safe for even the most delicate skin. It’s independently lab-tested as hypoallergenic but that’s not all. Heritage Park Silk and Wool is EWG-verified and EPA Safer Choice certified Most detergents don't have hypoallergenic formulation or outside certification. This one has both.

    Gentle Clean, No Compromise

What if you discovered the "gentle" detergent you've been using was slowly destroying your favorite cashmere sweater, one wash at a time?

Here's what most brands don't explain: silk, wool, and cashmere are protein fibers. Regular detergent (even the brands marketed as gentle) often contain enzymes. Enzymes clean by breaking down proteins. That’s what makes them effective on protein-based stains like grass, blood, or food. But, over time, enzymes also break down protein fibers like silk and wool, whether the label says “gentle” or not. If a detergent's label doesn't explicitly say enzyme-free, assume it's working against your fabric, not for it. To be clear, this isn’t a skin safety issue, because enzymes aren’t hard on skin. It's a fiber issue: the same mechanism that makes an enzyme effective on a protein stain is what slowly weakens protein fiber.

Here’s why this matters to you: Heritage Park Silk and Wool Detergent was made to safely remove dirt and odors while protecting the integrity of protein-based fabric.

    • Enzyme-Free Formula is gentle on protein-based fabrics like silk and wool. This formula was built around what silk and wool actually need, not a regular detergent with the harsh stuff diluted. The concentrated, pH-neutral, plant-based liquid that lifts dirt and odor while leaving the fiber structure intact. It's safe for any water temperature, standard or HE machines, or hand washing.
    • Built for Luxury Fabric Safe for washable silk clothing and bedding, lingerie, wool and cashmere, down, furs, and other natural fibers. Restores cleanliness while maintaining the quality and beauty of fine fabric.

So How Do You Know a "Delicate Wash" Is Actually Safe?

Imagine this: you're reading a label and can’t pronounce half of the ingredients. So, what’s in your detergent? That's the guesswork EWG Verified and EPA Safer Choice exist to remove.

    What Does EWG-Verified Mean?

The EWG Verified badge is a certification awarded by the Environmental Working Group (EWG) to products that meet their strictest standards for health and transparency. It indicates that our products are free of chemicals of concern and meet their high standards for ingredient disclosure and formulation. EWG-Verified is awarded to only the top 2.5 percent of products.

What Does EPA Safer Choice Certified Mean?

The EPA Safer Choice label means that every ingredient in this product, regardless of its concentration, has been reviewed against the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's stringent standards for human health and environmental safety. Safer Choice-certified products must also meet requirements for cleaning performance, ingredient disclosure, pH, and packaging. This helps you choose an effective detergent made with safer chemical ingredients for your family and the environment.

Here's why this matters to you: these aren't marketing badges you take on faith. They're two of the hardest certifications to earn in this category, and Heritage Park is the only laundry detergent on the market that holds both.

"We wouldn't sell a product we wouldn't use on our own family's laundry. That's why we didn't stop at earning one certification: we earned both EWG Verified and EPA Safer Choice. We built the formula around what silk and wool actually need, not just what's safe to touch."

    — Tom Ceconi, CEO, Heritage Park Laundry Essentials

What's In It and What Isn't

    • 🌿
Naturally Derived Ingredients: A short, plant-based ingredient list: Formulated Without enzymes, SLS, optical brighteners, isothiazolinones, lanolin, or ethanolamines, so nothing in the bottle works against your skin or your fabric.
    • 👗
Built for Luxury Fabric: Safe for washable silk clothing and bedding, lingerie, wool and cashmere, down, furs, and other natural fibers. Restores cleanliness while maintaining the quality and beauty of fine fabric.
    • 🤧
Independently Certified Hypoallergenic: Lab-tested and certified non-irritating, with no fragrance or harsh chemicals to trigger a reaction.
    • ⚕️
Dermatologist- and Pediatrician-Tested: Safe enough for baby clothing and bedding, gentle enough for your finest garments.
    • 🌎
Concentrated and Biodegradable: Less water, less plastic, and safe for greywater and septic systems.

What that means for you: every claim here is independently verified, not self-declared. Most "gentle" detergents on the shelf can't say that.

So How Do You Know a "Delicate Wash" Is Actually Safe?

Picture pulling a $200 cashmere sweater out of the wash: still soft, still holding its shape, not stretched or matted because a detergent that called itself "gentle" wasn't. That's the difference certifications are supposed to guarantee, and most brands don't have them to show.

Here's how we compare to two other well-known delicate-wash brands:

      Heritage Park
    Silk & Wool
    The Laundress
    Delicate Wash
    Woolite
    Delicates
    Safe for Silk and Wool
    Enzyme-Free
    pH-Neutral Unknown*
    Fragrance-Free Option ❌ (Scented) ❌ (Unscented only)†
    EWG-Verified ❌ (Not listed in EWG's database)‡ ❌ (Rated "D" by EWG)
    Dermatologist Tested
    Pediatrician Tested
    Made in USA Unknown*

*Woolite's pH and country of manufacture aren't publicly disclosed.

†"Unscented" and "fragrance-free" aren't the same thing. Unscented typically means no scent was added on top of the base formula. It can still contain fragrance or masking compounds to neutralize the product's natural odor. Woolite's unscented SKU still lists Parfum, Eugenol, Hexyl Salicylate, and Isoeugenol on its ingredient panel. Heritage Park's Fragrance Free version contains no fragrance ingredients of any kind, masking or otherwise.

‡As of this writing, The Laundress Delicate Wash does not appear in EWG's Guide to Healthy Cleaning database. This is notable, since most major detergent brands do appear there regardless of how they score. Separately, The Laundress recalled its products in December 2022 due to bacterial contamination and relaunched a fully reformulated Delicate Wash in July 2023.

What sets Heritage Park apart: it's the only laundry detergent, not just in this comparison but on the market, that holds both EWG Verified and EPA Safer Choice certification at the same time. Which means you don't have to take any brand's word for it, or dig through an ingredient list yourself, to know what's actually safe for your clothes.

Fragrance-Free, Hypoallergenic, and Built for Sensitive Skin

If you or your family are sensitive to fragrance or prone to allergies, this fragrance-free version is the safer choice. In independent clinical testing (a RIPT test, the standard industry test for whether something irritates skin), it produced zero adverse skin reactions, not "low irritation," zero, and it's dermatologist- and pediatrician-approved, safe enough for infant clothing and linens, not just adult delicates.

Meaning: this isn't just a fragrance-free product that happens to avoid a few irritants. It's clinically proven not to cause a reaction at all.

View the Safety Data Sheet or the independent hypoallergenic lab report, or just reach out with any question about what's in the bottle.

Ready to Stop Guessing What's Safe for Your Silk, Wool and Delicates?

The bottom line is this: Heritage Park Silk and Wool is the only laundry detergent that's both EWG Verified and EPA Safer Choice Certified, backed by clinical testing that found zero adverse skin reactions, and lab testing that shows it cleans as well as leading sensitive-skin brands. Safe enough for a newborn's blanket, gentle enough for your favorite dress, and proven enough that you don't have to take our word for it.

Formulated Without: Chemicals Harmful to Delicate Fibers & Skin

Most "gentle" or "delicate wash" detergents still rely on the same harsh chemistry as everyday detergent. Ours doesn't.

Every one of these is excluded by design, not just missing from the label, but a deliberate reason this formula clears both EWG Verified and EPA Safer Choice:

No Enzymes: The protein-eating cleaners that damage silk and wool fiber over time (see above).

No SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate): A harsher sulfate surfactant known to irritate sensitive skin and strip natural fibers.

No Optical Brighteners: Synthetic residue that fakes brightness on fabric and doesn't biodegrade.

No Isothiazolinones: A preservative class linked to allergic contact dermatitis, even at low concentrations.

No Lanolin: A wool-derived softening agent that's a common allergen, despite being "natural."

No Ethanolamines: A compound linked to skin and respiratory irritation.

Meaning: what you read on the label is exactly what's missing from the formula, nothing softened or generalized for the website.
